Doha, Qatar: The Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department of the Ministry of Interior has successfully dismantled a criminal organization comprising 12 individuals of Asian nationality. This group had been targeting communication towers throughout Qatar in an effort to distribute fraudulent SMS messages that contained deceptive links masquerading as those from banks and official government agencies.
The intent behind these fraudulent communications was to illicitly acquire personal and financial information from citizens and residents, including credit card details and other sensitive data, by enticing them to click on the harmful links and provide their credentials.

The Ministry advises the public to remain vigilant and refrain from clicking on any dubious links received via SMS or messaging platforms. It is crucial to avoid entering or revealing personal or financial information through these channels.
The Ministry reaffirms its dedication to tracking down individuals who attempt to undermine information security or personal data and will implement all necessary legal actions against those found guilty of such criminal conduct.
