Qatar hit by dust storm amid strong northwesterly winds

Doha, Qatar: Strong northwesterly winds have resulted in poor visibility across most of Qatar today, Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

The Meteorology Department issued a warning of strong winds and low visibility along the coast, as well as strong winds and high waves with reduced visibility at times offshore.

Coastal weather until 6 pm today is expected to be dusty in most areas, with relatively warm temperatures during the day. Offshore, it will range from dusty to light dust at times, with some clouds present.

Winds along the coast will be northwesterly at speeds of 14 to 24 knots, gusting up to 30 knots at times in some areas.

At sea, the wind will be coming from the northwest at speeds between 14 and 24 knots, with occasional gusts reaching up to 32 knots.

Visibility along the coast will range from 3 to 8 kilometers, occasionally dropping to 1 kilometer or less in some areas. Offshore, it will be between 4 and 9 kilometers, also dropping to 1 kilometer or less at times in certain locations.

Wave heights along the coast range from 2 to 4 feet, occasionally rising to 5 feet. Offshore, wave heights will range from 4 to 7 feet, occasionally rising to 11 feet.

The maximum expected temperature in Doha is 34°C.

Qatar is currently experiencing a significant dust storm, driven by strong northwesterly winds. The storm has reduced visibility across the region, affecting daily activities and travel. Residents are advised to take precautions, including staying indoors and using masks if venturing outside. The weather conditions are expected to persist, highlighting the need for awareness and preparedness in the face of such natural events.
