Washington: President Donald Trump is set to embark on a three-nation tour of the Middle East next month, as announced by his spokesperson Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.
This trip marks his second international journey since resuming his presidency, following his upcoming visit to the Vatican for Pope Francis's funeral on Saturday.
Trump "will visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates from May 13 to May 16," Leavitt stated during a White House press briefing, providing no further details.
Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia's foreign minister engaged in discussions in Washington to prepare for Trump's visit, reminiscent of 2017 when the conservative kingdom was the first stop on his inaugural foreign trip.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia pledged in January to invest $600 billion into US trade and investments.
The announcement comes as the Biden administration is actively seeking to negotiate a nuclear agreement with Iran while also warning of potential military action if negotiations do not succeed.
In 2018, Trump pulled the United States out of a significant nuclear agreement that had been established three years prior, which had lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for limitations on its nuclear activities.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trump mentioned that he had a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, affirming their shared stance on various issues, including trade and Iran.
