Doha, Qatar: The 11th edition of the Senyar Festival, organized by the Cultural Village Foundation—Katara, has commenced with 54 teams from Qatar and other GCC nations competing in fishing and pearl-diving events.
The hand-line fishing, referred to locally as “Haddaq,” and pearl diving, known as “Lifah,” will have participants competing for awards in categories such as the largest catch and skill proficiency.
The organizing committee has specified that the catch is restricted to 17 designated fish species. Winners will be revealed at the conclusion of the festival on Friday at the Katara beachfront.
The Senyar Festival aims to rejuvenate the traditions linked to Qatar's maritime heritage. The event is designed to preserve this rich legacy while "offering experiences that connect younger generations with their authentic history."
