At least six people have been hospitalized following a shooting incident at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
One individual has been taken into custody after the shooting occurred at the Student Union building on Thursday, as reported by CBS News, the BBC's US partner.
President Donald Trump stated that he was briefed on the situation at the start of a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House, referring to it as "a tragedy, a dreadful event."
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis remarked: "Our thoughts are with the FSU community, and state law enforcement is actively responding to the situation."
As reported by the Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare facility, one victim is in critical condition, while five others are in serious condition after being taken to the hospital.
The university has decided to cancel all classes until at least Friday, and all sports events scheduled for the weekend have also been called off.
Police responded to an active shooter incident around midday local time, according to the university's statement.
They issued an alert urging students and individuals on campus to "seek shelter and await further instructions.
"One of my classmates received a notification on her phone and quickly informed the rest of the class."
